2012 World Cyber Games (WCG) Global Final was concluded at Kunshan Int'l Conference & Exhibition Center after four days of fierce competition. World champions of nine games were born here. China topped the medal ranking by grabbing three golds, two silvers and two bronzes in the five official games, and in the four promotional games, China seized four golds and five silvers. The outstanding performance won China the WCG annual National Cup for the first time. 2013 WCG Global Final will still take place in Kunshan.
In the five official games, China broke Korea's long-time monopoly by taking the crowns in three games, i.e., CrossFire, Warcraft III and DOTA2. What's more remarkable is that China also won four golds and five silvers in the four promotional games including QQ Speed.
The WCG National Cup is awarded to the team with most medalists in official games, and the winner of the National Cup will be given $0.1 million US dollars and the right to keep the trophy for one year. China as the host has outperformed both its competitors this year and its own records in previous WCG events, and justifiably taken the annual National Cup.
This year's WCG Global Final has come to an end although cyber game lovers all want it to last longer. The success of the event and the service that Kunshan has provided has left an impression on all the participants. "This year's Kunshan WCG is the most successful one over the past 12 years." WCG CEO Brad Lee said. According to Brad Lee, China has improved generally and played quite well in this year's competition, which indicates that China has been making continuous progress in cyber games. Brad Lee also expected WCG Global Final 2013 to be a bigger success.
